About Mercy Corps
Since 1979, Mercy Corps has been a beacon of hope, helping individuals overcome the most challenging hardships and thrive. Our approach is centered on transforming crises into opportunities. With a rich history of innovation, timeliness, and adaptability, Mercy Corps has been at the forefront of change.
In Tanzania since 2006, our focus spans three key areas: food security, governance and peace, and economic opportunity and livelihoods. Youth and women are central to our programs, where we empower local communities and government entities at both national and local levels to tackle pressing challenges.
Notably, the Agrifin program connects smallholder farmers with technology and financial services to enhance productivity. We are proud to be part of the FCDO-funded Collective Resilience Against Extremism (CREATE) program, which strives to combat violent extremism in East Africa.
Wajibika Program
Funded by the UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, the Wajibika program aims to create an open and inclusive society in Tanzania. We work towards greater government accountability and deliver outcomes that support civic space, media freedom, and access to information. Wajibika is structured into three components, with a flexible, demand-led approach to drive governance innovation.
